The new update for the Nintendo Switch may have blocked some words that some may consider NSFW (not safe to work). This update in question is one that Nintendo actually pushed to Switch owners in the past week, which means there’s a good chance that many have already downloaded it for themselves. However, Nintendo is usually very careful about what you actually modify in these console updates, so it’s hard to tell each change on its own in great detail. Fortunately, one Switch data tool found some interesting new information with this patch.
According to a data limiter named OatmealDome, Nintendo has banned a few different words as part of this new Switch update. The patch, which is version 14.1.1 for Switch consoles, is primarily intended to improve stability and overall performance. Additionally, OatmealDome notes that Nintendo has also banned the word (or term) “sendnudes” as part of this update. It also banned a number of different phrases that include death for those who use the Japanese language.

– Various phrases involving death in Katakana (starting with シ ン デ 〜) for Japanese– OatmealDome (OatmealDome) April 19, 2022
If you thought it might be weird for Nintendo to ban these words in isolation, they are by no means the only words banned on the console. Nintendo has always implemented certain filters on the console so that players are not allowed to create their own user profiles or say other things on the platform that may not be appropriate. In fact, almost all gaming consoles implement a filter of some kind in this regard.
However, while it might make sense to ban certain words on the Switch, this last restriction is perhaps one of the more fuzzy bans that have been implemented. Most people probably wouldn’t have a major offense with the word left out, although it’s understandable how it was scrapped.
